Bike Camp Week 1 2023!

PLEASE PACK A SUIT, TOWEL, ETC THE REST OF THE WEEK. THIS GIVES US CONSTANT FLEXIBILITY TO KEEP ALL CAMPERS COOL AND HAPPY. THANKS!

MONDAY- WE RODE ALL OVER THE CITY IN THE MORNING! (YARDS PARK, ANACOSTIA PARK AND Garfield Park. As the morning progressed, we rode to the National Mall for an IMAX on the National Parks at the Natural History Museum. 

TUESDAY- Groups went to DCA and some stayed on the Hill for library and park time! In the afternoon, we traveled to Yards Park for pool time!

WEDNESDAY- We headed all of the Hill in the morning for exercise and park time! In the afternoon, we had an hour of game time at Labyrinth and visited a community pool in Navy Yard!

THURSDAY- We will explore Haines point for lunch and possibly visit the National Arboretum.

FRIDAY- (FLEX DAY)! I GENERALLY LEAVE THIS DAY OPEN FOR A KID CENTERED DAY WHERE THEY CAN CHOOSE THE ACTIVITIES WE EMBARK ON (VIA BICYCLE). 

Week 5 Daily Updates- It's going to be hot!

TUESDAY- ONE GROUP WILL TRAVEL OUT TO PHOENIX BIKES IN ARLINGTON, VA. THE other group will do rides around Capitol Hill and head to Yards Park for lunch and splash park time. 

WEDNESDAY- PLEASE PLAN FOR A NICE LONG DAY OF BIKING. WE MOST LIKELY WILL HEAD TO DCA OR FURTHER (GRAVELLY POINT/ALEXANDRIA). WE MAY SWING BY YARDS PARK ON THE WAY BACK TO QUICKLY COOL OFF. AWE WILL ALSO VISIT LABYRINTH GAMES!

THURSDAY- BIKE CAMP WILL head down to the Building Museum to see the ICEBERG exhibit. Will most likely will visit Yards Park in the afternoon. 

FRIDAY- (FLEX DAY)! I GENERALLY LEAVE THIS DAY OPEN FOR A KID CENTERED DAY WHERE THEY CAN CHOOSE THE ACTIVITIES WE EMBARK ON (VIA BICYCLE). 

Week 4 Daily Updates!

MONDAY- WE RODE ALL OVER THE CITY IN THE MORNING! (YARDS PARK, ANACOSTIA PARK AND HAINES POINT) IN THE AFTERNOON, Group 1 TRAVELED TO THE AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM AND SAW AN IMAX ON SPACE EXPLORATION. Group 2 rode around Yards Park and got a special treat at 7/11!

TUESDAY- One group will travel out to Phoenix Bikes in Arlington, VA. The group that didn't see an IMAX on Monday will travel to the Smithsonian in the morning. 

WEDNESDAY- PLEASE PLAN FOR A NICE LONG DAY OF BIKING. WE MOST LIKELY WILL HEAD TO DCA OR FURTHER (GRAVELLY POINT/ALEXANDRIA). WE MAY SWING BY YARDS PARK ON THE WAY BACK TO QUICKLY COOL OFF. A SWIMSUIT IS COMPLETELY OPTIONALLY. WITH THE WARM WEATHER, KIDS ARE ALMOST DRY BY THE TIME THEY GET BACK TO MAURY ELEMENTARY. WE WILL ALSO VISIT LABYRINTH GAMES!

THURSDAY- Bike camp will volunteer at a food pantry on Capitol hill in the morning! We will head to Yards park in the afternoon for some splash park fun! Please park necessary items for swimming. (sunscreen/towels/suits/etc)

WEDNESDAY- PLEASE PLAN FOR A NICE LONG DAY OF BIKING. WE MOST LIKELY WILL HEAD TO DCA OR FURTHER (GRAVELLY POINT/ALEXANDRIA). WE MAY SWING BY YARDS PARK ON THE WAY BACK TO QUICKLY COOL OFF. Please pack a SWIMSUIT and sunscreen!  WE WILL ALSO VISIT LABYRINTH GAMES!

THURSDAY- ROLLINGCREST- WE WILL HEAD TO THE SPLASH PARK IN HYATTSVILLE MARYLAND. WE WILL MOST LIKELY RIDE OUR BIKES TO UNION STATION. PLEASE PACK A METRO CARD, SWIM GEAR, AND A TOWEL. 

FRIDAY- (FLEX DAY) THERE IS A TENTATIVE PLAN FOR A VOLUNTEER PROJECT and a special surprise! 

Week 2 - Daily Updates!

MONDAY- We rode all over the city in the morning! (Yards Park, Anacostia Park and Haines Point) In the afternoon, we traveled to the Air and Space MUSEUM and saw an IMAX on Space exploration.

TUESDAY- We will swim at Yards Park or Haines Point! Please pack towels and swim wear for aquatic  activities!

WEDNESDAY- PLEASE PLAN FOR A NICE LONG DAY OF BIKING. WE MOST LIKELY WILL HEAD TO DCA or further (GRAVELLY POINT/Alexandria). WE MAY SWING BY YARDS PARK ON THE WAY BACK TO QUICKLY COOL OFF. A SWIMSUIT IS COMPLETELY OPTIONALLY. WITH THE WARM WEATHER, KIDS ARE ALMOST DRY BY THE TIME THEY GET BACK TO MAURY ELEMENTARY. We will also visit Labyrinth games!

Week 1 - Daily Updates!

Daily Notes and Updates! 

Monday- We rode all over the Hill in the morning! We traveled to the Natural History Museum in the afternoon and saw a IMAX on Dinosaurs.

Tuesday- We swam and played at Yards Park. We rode a total of 9 miles today!

Wednesday- Please plan for a nice long day of biking. We most likely will head to DCA (Gravelly Point). We may swing by Yards park on the way back to quickly cool off. A swimsuit is completely optionally. With the warm weather, kids are almost dry by the time they get back to Maury Elementary. 

Thursday- Rollingcrest- We will head to the splash park in Chillum Maryland. We will most likely ride our bikes to Union station. Please pack a metro card, swim gear, and a towel. 

Friday- (Flex day) There is a tentative plan for a volunteer project! I generally leave this day open for a kid centered day where they can choose the activities we embark on (via bicycle).

This has been an amazing week of fun activities! We have explored many great destinations! 

At the conclusion of this week, bikers will have rode all around Anacostia Park, saw an IMAX at The Natural History Musuem, played at Yards Park, Catholic U, rode the Metropolitan Branch Bike trail, rode 16 miles to the National Zoo, volunteered our time packing bags for families in need, played games at Labyrinth, and enjoyed ourselves at Rollingcrest Splash park!
